I believe that we still are passing on the idea's behind the Oral traditions even if we think we are not. I remember how I learned the colors of the Rainbow....I did it by constantly repeating ROY G BIV.....the constant repetition of this comes right out of the Oral traditions...like anything else though...the way in which we pass it on has changed over the years....In my family we use visual aids to help tell stories about the ancesters of my family....my mom keeps numerous photo albums which extend back farther then I care to remember....because of these photographic memories my mother told me stories that I remember to this day...
One example was when I was looking at pictures of an old outhouse that still stands on my farm back in Geraldine MT...my mother related a story that I can never forget....
My grandpa was a young man at the time and needed to "lose a couple pounds" if you know what I mean...well you might not so he had to take a large poop.....he was in the middle of the field at the time and thus...hurried back to the outhouse to rid his body of the poison inside of him....little did he know the danger that awaited him at the outhouse....it started off like any other poop...the usual ritual of undoing the pants and sitting on the gaping mouth that ate our waste....when he sat down though he felt a sharp pain on his left but cheek...he jumped up and found that a rattlesnake had made the outhouse his home and didn't like the idea of more poop in his habitat...needless to say my grandpa was bitten on his buttcheek by a rattlesnake...
So i guess I am saying don't worry...the oral tradition still lives!
